Central Pacific Rainforest Adventure

The Central Pacific Rainforest Adventure takes place in the small community of Quebrada Arroyo nestled in the rainforest above the Manuel Antonio National Park.  On this expedition participants will have the opportunity to explore the rainforest with local people, learn about the medicinal plants of the rainforest, and support an innovative rural eco-tourism project!

The following is a brief sample itinerary:

Arrival-Day 2

After your first night and introductory meeting in San José you will visit the crater of the impressive (and active!) Poas Volcano and then visit don Gerardo’s workshop to learn about how Costa Rica’s giant masks are made.

Day 3-6

You travel to the tiny agricultural community of Quebrada Arroyo in the mountains above the resort town of Manuel Antonio. At Quebrada Arroyo you stay at a lodge run by the local farmers cooperative (CoopeCampesinos) and learn about the challenges of subsistence family farming in a developing country as well as a rural community’s effort to preserve the rainforest. While here you will have the opportunity to swim beneath the many waterfalls in the rainforest reserve, hike through the rainforest canopy, and work on improving trails in the jungle.

Day 7-8

You travel to the resort town of Manuel Antonio to do some whitewater rafting or zip through the rainforest on a canopy tour, as well as spend some time on the beaches of the Manuel Antonio National Park.  Then it is back to San Jose for your final night.

Day 9

After a refreshing night’s sleep and a final meeting to share everyone’s experiences it’s time to go back home.

For groups or families of 5 or more a specialty expedition can be designed for any time of the year. Also, any teacher or parent accompanying a group of 6 or more students or family members pays nothing for the expedition and flies for free!
