What is a Service Expedition?
Central American Service Expeditions (CASE) arose from the need for quality international service and inter-cultural experiences for young people.  As economic production and consumption become more global, it is critical that all of us learn more about the world in which we live and on which we all depend. This process is best begun at an early age when young people are just starting to take an interest in the world around them.

A service expedition combines community service with adventure travel to some of the most beautiful places in the world.  A service expedition with CASE jump starts the process of opening a young person’s mind to the many possibilities of the world and our role within it.

Central American Service Expeditions embodies our commitment to take young adults out of their comfort zone and place them within a context which allows them to challenge their stereotypes about themselves and other cultures, and grow as individuals.

Experience in the Field
The CASE team has long experience promoting sustainable development and environmental conservation in Costa Rica, and we have applied that experience to our expeditions. Our expeditions are designed to accomplish two main goals. First, we strive to ensure that participants are immersed in Costa Rican culture and work side by side with people from local communities. Second, CASE provides direct financial support to rural Costa Rican community based organizations.

Support for Local Communities

CASE supports rural development projects both by leading our groups to areas which are off the beaten path and through direct financial support of locally executed conservation and development projects. CASE explicitly supports rural community tourism to promote sustainable rural economic development and environmental conservation. Further, CASE donates 10% of the total cost of our expeditions to organizations based in the communities where we work.

Three Ways to Experience Costa Rica with CASE!

Central American Service Expeditions gives you three ways to experience Costa Rica and serve local communities.

High School and College Groups

CASE specializes in designing and executing international service learning expeditions for high school students and alternative Spring Break/service trips for college students.  If you are a student and want to take an expedition by yourself or with friends, we work to provide you with a trip you’ll remember for the rest of your life!  If you are a teacher, we can design an expedition which applies lessons you are teaching in economics, Latin American history, international relations, biology, ecology, Spanish, and much more!  We also offer special packages for teachers who accompany their students on an expedition.  No one combines adventure travel with service learning better than CASE!

Family Travel

CASE can custom design a trip for your family combine adventure with community service in some of the most beautiful places in Costa Rica.  There is no better way for a family to share and grow together than through a service expedition with CASE.  Families can make their vacation together a truly unique experience and bond in a way that is simply not possible with conventional family vacations.

Volunteer

If you are interested in long term volunteer options, Central American Service Expeditions is right for you!  Because of our vast experience working on the ground in Costa Rica to promote sustainable development and environmental conservation, we can receive and place volunteers with community based organizations that are really making a difference on the ground.  We make sure that your work is meaningful and has the support of the community where you are placed.

“We took a group this past July and found it to be an amazing, life changing experience for the students and for us.”
